Bambako Diaspora Association
Bambako is a Mandinka village in Kiang Central, settled by families of Bambara origin generations ago. This site is where the village and its diaspora meet — to track what's being built, share what's happening at home, and make it easy for anyone, anywhere, to help.
Our mission
Kiang Bambako Village Diaspora Association (KBVDA) unites people of Kiang Bambako origin living across the United States, Europe, and beyond in service of three goals: providing emergency repatriation support for deceased members and their families, funding sustainable development in Bambako Village — healthcare, education, and infrastructure — and fostering unity, mutual support, and cultural preservation across the diaspora.
The village today
Four foundations are in place. The next stage of development builds on top of these — see the full picture on the Projects page.
A community borehole supplies clean drinking water to the village, reducing reliance on unprotected sources.
The village is connected to electricity, powering homes and opening the door to small local businesses and better schooling conditions.
Bambako runs both a primary school and an Arabic school, giving children a secular and Islamic education without leaving the village.
A fish pond gives families a local source of food and income — one of the village's strongest economic assets to build on.
Our story
Bambako's founding families, its historic sites, and the elders who shaped the village are being documented for the first time in one place — so the story isn't lost between generations.
Whether you're in Bambako, Sacramento, Folsom, or anywhere else the diaspora has settled, there's a way to stay involved.
